Recently, I had the pleasure of joining Marvin Joles on his podcast, Blacktop Banter, for an in-depth conversation about my journey in the asphalt industry, personal growth, and the lessons I've learned along the way. It was an honor to be invited to share my story with Marvin and his listeners, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to reflect on my experiences and connect with someone who has become a valued friend and mentor.
Throughout our discussion, Marvin and I touched on a range of topics, from the challenges of starting and growing a business to the importance of cultivating genuine relationships and living with purpose. We shared our own struggles and triumphs, and found common ground in our desire to help others and make a positive impact in our industry and communities.
One of the key insights that emerged from our conversation was the power of surrounding yourself with the right people and creating an atmosphere that supports growth and success. Marvin and I both acknowledged the role that our friendship and the support of others in the industry have played in our own journeys, and emphasized the importance of seeking out mentors, collaborators, and peers who share your values and aspirations.
We also delved into the topic of personal transformation and the ongoing process of discovering and living out one's purpose. I shared my own experience of hitting rock bottom and the profound shift in perspective that came with confronting my struggles with addiction and mental health. Through this challenging time, I gained a deeper understanding of what truly matters in life and the importance of showing up with humility, authenticity, and a commitment to serving others.
Marvin's thoughtful questions and insights helped me to articulate some of the key lessons I've learned along the way, including the value of embracing the journey, enjoying the process, and measuring success not just in financial terms, but in the quality of our relationships and the impact we have on those around us.
As I reflect on our conversation, I'm filled with gratitude for the opportunity to share my story and the lessons I've learned with Marvin and his listeners. I'm also inspired by the potential for our industry to be a force for good in the world, and the role that each of us can play in creating a culture of collaboration, support, and purpose-driven leadership.
I want to thank Marvin for creating a platform like Blacktop Banter, where we can come together as a community to share our experiences, learn from one another, and support each other in our personal and professional growth. I'm excited to continue this journey alongside friends and colleagues like Marvin, and to see where this path of purpose and service leads us.
